How to Stop Gender Stereotypes from Placing Limitations on Children

Harmful gender stereotypes continue to clog the media, placing unnecessary limitations on children of all genders. Since 2011, the Representation Project has led a conversation around breaking down these stereotypes. It began with the film Miss Representation, in 2011, which addresses the ways negative media stereotypes affect women and girls. Next came The Mask You Live In, examining the harmful narratives fed to boys. The films, though, are only part of the mission. The Representation Project also supports their Youth Media Summit and leads effective social activism campaigns.
